Welch Foods Inc. and grape juice consumers got a California federal court’s early nod for a $1.5 million nationwide settlement resolving allegations the company falsely touted certain products as heart-healthy when they increased the risk of disease.
Welch’s also agreed to stop using phrases such as “helps support a healthy heart” or “helps promote a healthy heart” on the labels of its 100% Grape Juice, 100% Juice Red Sangria, and 100% Black Cherry Concord Grape Juice.
Curtis Hanson alleged those representations are false and misleading because 100% fruit juices increase the risk of heart disease and diabetes.
